Jacqueline Lagnah, the Leopold and Breda streets shop owner who was shot in her back on Wednesday last during indiscriminate shooting has been discharged from the hospital and is at home recuperating.

Lagnah, called `Jackie’, 55, of Lot 83 Leopold and Breda streets, Werk-enRust, yesterday told Stabroek News that her injuries are healing and she is happy to return to her usual activities.

When Stabroek News spoke with the woman she was operating the same shop in which she was shot.

“I have to thank God for being here today. The shooting was an accident I got caught in the crossfire. I just think I was at the wrong place at the wrong time,” she said.

The woman explained that she was discharged from the hospital a few days ago.

At the time of the shooting, Lagnah was fixing some bottles in her shop when the bullets grazed her. She said, she was happy that she did not have to undergo any surgery.

Police said the shooting which occurred sometime around 11.20 am is believed to be gang-related.

According to Lagnah, she has met with the police and gave a statement.

A source close to the investigation told Stabroek News that the shooting stemmed from an altercation which occurred on Tuesday evening between Alkevin Anthony and a resident of Leopold and Breda streets.

Following the shooting, police swooped down on the suspects at a house on Penny Lane in South Ruimveldt. The car which was used in the shooting earlier in the day was also intercepted and has since been impounded.
