Simmons posts tripledoub­le in Sixers’ win

(Field Level Media) Ben Simmons posted a triple-double consisting of 19 points, 17 rebounds and 14 assists, leading the Philadelph­ia 76ers past the visiting Chicago Bulls 115-101 Wednesday night. Simmons registered his fifth career tripledoub­le in just his 43rd NBA game.

Only Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook (14) and Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James (seven) have more triple-doubles than Simmons this season.

Joel Embiid scored 22 points, Dario Saric added 21 points and 10 rebounds and Robert Covington contribute­d 16 points for the Sixers. Jrue Holiday and Anthony Davis both scored 19 points as New Orleans defeated host Charlotte.

DeMarcus Cousins added 16 points and 13 rebounds and E’Twaun Moore had 11 points for the Pelicans, who won for the sixth time in their past seven games.

Dwight Howard, appearing in his 1,000th regular-season game in the NBA, posted 22 points and 16 rebounds for Charlotte. Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert scored 15 points apiece, and Joe Ingles made two pivotal 3-pointers in overtime, lifting visiting Utah past slumping Detroit.

Ingles finished with 13 points for the Jazz, who overcame a huge outing by the Pistons’ Andre Drummond and a sevenpoint deficit in the final three minutes of regulation.

Ricky Rubio supplied 11 points and 10 rebounds for Utah, and Joe Johnson added 11 points off the bench. Thaddeus Young scored 22 points on 10of-13 shooting as Indiana routed Phoenix in Indianapol­is.

Victor Oladipo was right behind with 21 points on 6-of-11 shooting and delivered nine assists for the Pacers. Domantas Sabonis scored 19, hitting 8 of 12 shots, and added eight rebounds. Bojan Bogdanovic added 17 for Indiana. Fred VanVleet came off the bench to score 19 points, leading Toronto to a rout of host Atlanta in a matchup between one of the best teams in the Eastern Conference and one of the worst.
