Guinness Greatest of the Streets – West Dem / East Bank Zone Showstoppers , ESPN to clash in final

Two time defending champion Showstoppers, will oppose ESPN in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara/East Bank Demerara Zone final on Friday, following semifinal wins on Tuesday.

The first ever meeting between the two sides comes after Showstoppers crushed inaugural winner [2015] West Side Ballers 6-0, and ESPN downed Dream Team 3-0, in front of a large crowd at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.

Showstoppers secured the victory in extra time to seal their fourth consecutive appearance in the championship game, as Marvin Josiah recorded three Guinness Goals (GG) [a goal scored in the final three minutes of the match is counted as two].

The lanky forward found the back of the net in the 33rd, 34th and 35th minute. On the other hand, first time finalist and last year’s fourth placed unit, ESPN, secured their win, compliments of goals from Pernell Schultz in the seventh and 18th minute (GG).

The losers of the semifinal matches will face-off in the third place playoff.

In the earlier quarterfinal round, ESPN downed Ballers Empire 1-0 compliments of a Trevon Lythcott strike in the 15th minute.

Showstoppers dismissed Boom-Bang 4-0. Dexroy Adams and Stephon Jupiter recorded Guinness goals in the 31st and 33rd minute, respectively.

West Side Ballers overcame Rising Stars 2-0. Kevin Frank recorded a (GG) in the 18th minute. While Dream Team edged Hustlers 1-0 on penalty kicks, after regulation and extra time ended scoreless.

The four losing quarterfinal teams will battle in the Guinness Plate Championship, prior to the commencement of the third place playoff
