- By Romario Samaroo

Sachin Singh (48, 2-10), Navindra Persaud (44) and Zakary Jodha 4-13 helped the East Bank Cricket Association (EBCA) blow away East Coast Cricket Association (EBCA) XI by 23 runs on the opening day of the Demerara Cricket Board Under-17 Inter Association Tournament at Everest Cricket Club ground on Monday.

Reduced to a 32-overs-a-side contest due to rain, EBCA won the toss and batted. Openers, Singh and Persaud hammered the wayward East Coast bowlers adding 98 runs before Hemnauth Dindyal had Singh caught at cover attempting a big hit.

East Bank began to lose their way as Yeudister Persaud (02), Mahindra Dindyal (03) and Bryan Bowen fell in quick succession mainly due to poor running between the wickets.

Persaud and Tatesh Shivrattan (04) managed to take East Bank to 132 before another bundle of wickets fell and East Bank ended on 135 from their allotted overs.

Shivanand Gossi was the most effective bowler with three wickets while Dindyal and Vinod Sundar captured one each.

In reply, Bowen broke the opening stand of 28 with Lakeram Ramkisson (09) the man dismissed. Jodha began his assault, accounting for the wickets of Andrew Samaroo (03) and Gossi (00) before Marlon Boele removed Elnathon Suhknandan (09). Singh returned with the ball to dismiss Davanand Khemraj (12) and Sundar (00) while Jodha took out Michael Pooran (06) and Trevon Clarke (04) in successive overs while Mohamed Jameer’s dismissed Dindyal for a composed 33, a wicket that swung the match around.

In the second contest played over at the Tuschen Ground, East Bank Essequibo, Georgetown recorded a 79-run win after posting 159 from their 40 overs in the match also reduced in the number of overs due to rain. Joshua Gobin (3-29), Andre Seepersauu (3-24) and Dominic Hussain (3-29) were the key wicket takers. In reply, West Demerara struggled to 89 from just 27 overs with Nicholas Rajpat top scoring with 18.
