Allicock, Lewis off to training camp in Mexico

-

Two of Guyana’s brightest amateur boxing prospects, Keevin Allicock and Colin Lewis departed yesterday for a one-week training camp in Mexico City, Mexico which will be followed by their participation in the CAC Qualifiers in Tijuana from March 1018th.

The duo’s sojourn was made possible through the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA) and its President, K Juman-Yassin.

These and other details were disclosed yesterday by President of the Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) Steve Ninvalle.

Ninvalle also revealed that Lewis (light welterweight) and Allicock (bantamweight), both gold medallists at the Caribbean Development Boxing Tournament in St Lucia two months ago, will be outfitted with travel insurance in the event of any unfortunate occurrences.

“That is a big plus for the boxers since they can be more comfortable knowing that they will be taken care of in case of any injury abroad,” said Ninvalle “We don’t expect that to happen but just in case something happens, they’re covered.”

He added“We were urged to do that following a mandate by the Guyana Defence Force’s Brigadier West. He had requested that in order for boxers from his gym to be included, they must have that insurance.”

The GBA head, who emphasized the importance of the insurance, stated that going forward… “we plan to have all of our teams leaving Guyana to be covered by insurance.

“The insurance was expedited by Abdool’s and Abdool’s of which we share a special relationship with,” Ninvalle added.

He then thanked CEO of Abdool’s and Abdool’s, Peter Abdool, who is the President of the local professional boxing board for being a key corner man for Allicock and Lewis
