TSC in 27-run win against GYO in U17 T20
Transport Sports Club yesterday defeated Gandhi Youth Organisation by 27 runs to win their opening match of the Georgetown Cricket Association/Guyana Diabetes Association/Ansa McAl U17 T20 competition.
Batting first TSC scored 153-7 and then dismissed GYO, for 126.
Opener, Andrew Samaroo top scored with 27 including three successive fours of off Dhanesh Persaud before falling to Dwain Dick in the 11th over.
Samaroo added 50 for the first wicket with Rudranauth Kissoon (25) while Onshore Seepersaud contributed 12 and extras accounted for 34.
With tournament rules requiring eight overs of pace, GYO only managed to bowl six of the quota and were penalized by 10 runs for every over of pace not bowled. Thus, despite Transport only making 99 from the bat, they reached 153 from their 20 overs. Persaud picked up 2-28 while Dick, Elnathan Suknanan and Krishna Singh picked one wicket each.
In the chase, GYO were restricted to 126 all out even though Yeudistir Persaud scored 39 at the top of the order. Responsible batting from Suknanan (17) and Dick (38) helped GYO keep their chances alive but Suknanan played a lifting delivery off of Dave Mohabir to long leg and the pair attempted a third run only to find Dick short of his ground thanks to a rocket like throw from Akash Persaud.
Fidel Collins, 2-27, Davanand Khemraj, 2-23 and Samaroo 2-12 ensured Transport secured the win.
