McPherson, Douglas spur Headquarte­rs to 110-run win

A belligeren­t ton from Quacy McPherson and a fivewicket haul from left-arm orthodox spinner Kiffer Douglas spurred Headquarte­rs to a 110-run win over Training Corps in the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) Inter-Unit T20 competitio­n at the Camp Ayanganna ground yesterday.

Batting first Headquarte­rs blasted their way to 201-2 from their allotted overs with McPherson swinging the willow to the tune of an unbeaten 107.

His innings included eight fours and five sixes and is the only century of the competitio­n to date.

Training Corps were taught a valuable lesson after they were bundled out for 91 in 13 overs.

After being well-placed at 50-1, Training Corps lost their way after C. Patrick departed for the top score of 23.

While the Headquarte­rs fielding was rusty, with two important catches going abegging, one of which went for a maximum, Training squad lost seven of their wickets inside three overs with Douglas bagging a hat trick before ending with 5-9.

Earlier in the day, Base Camp Ayanganna defeated 21 Art Coy by 43 runs. Base Camp Ayanganna made 171 all out in 18 overs with M. Chadd picking up 5-13.

Damion Waldron and Joel Chisolm made 21 and 27 respective­ly.

In reply, 21 Art Coy collapsed for 128 in 16 overs with V. Thomas slamming three sixes in the top score of 38.

C. Sam, M. Piers, Waldron and Chisolm picked up two wickets each.

The tournament continues at the same venue today with two more matches set to bowl off from 09:00h.
