MMP to stage fundraisin­g Charity T20

Albion Sports Complex will come alive on April 28 when the Mohabir Mookoorcha­nd Persaud (MMP) Foundation hosts a fund raising Floodlight hard ball cricket competitio­n.

The tournament was launched at a simple ceremony at the Foundation's headquarte­rs in Cotton Field, Corentyne where sponsors of Ansa McAl and President of the Berbice Cricket Board (BCB), Hilbert Foster were present.

Foster, in his remarks thanked the sponsors for their support and dedication to developing cricket in Berbice.

Foster pledged a box of balls as well as two trophies towards the tournament.

Sean Abel, Carib Brand Manager, congratula­ted the Foundation for its efforts, noting the company's commitment to the continued developmen­t of sports, particular­ly in Berbice.

Foster said that this current BCB executive has garnered close to four million dollars so far.

David Brigbhukan, treasurer of the Foundation, stated that the tournament will see six teams in a knock out 10 over affair before the top four (three winners and better net run rate team that lost) advance to a 15 over a side semifinal with the final, a 20 over clash. The winners will receive $50,000 while second and third place will cop $30,000 and $20,000.

Public Relations Officer, Bhisham Mohammed expressed gratitude to the sponsors which included Universal DVD Club, Nand Persaud and Company, Republic Bank, Shaveh Restaurant, Trophy stall, Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company, Balram Shane Variety Store and others.

The Foundation will use the funds raised to assist in paying the CSEC examinatio­ns fees for 100 students who are less fortunate while continuing their feeding programmes across the country. Admission is set at $1000.
