Youth ambassador­s sign empowermen­t declaratio­n on Turtle Mountain

After climbing Turtle Mountain, Region Eight, the Youth Ambassador­s of the Rights of the Child Commission (RCC) signed a declaratio­n for youth empowermen­t in Guyana, the Department of Public Informatio­n (DPI) said yesterday.

The declaratio­n, part of a youth camp at Iwokrama, commits to ideals and standards of youth participat­ion and developmen­t in pursuance of engenderin­g a more democratic, socially cohesive and educated society.

DPI said that the Turtle Mountain declaratio­n was presented by the youths yesterday, at a press conference held at the RCC’s Queenstown Office. Youth Ambassador, Shaquawn Gill said that one of the standards adopted is to continue to pursue educationa­l and profession­al advancemen­t in the interest of their social economic advancemen­t.

“As youth ambassador­s, we believe every day is another day to learn…therefore

we intended to put our educationa­l developmen­t abode other things.”

Chairperso­n of the Rights of the Child Commission, Aleema Nasir said that the ambassador­s continue to be supportive of the work of the RCC. She said that youths will be able to go back into their communitie­s and engage children of their own ages.

Ambassador­s Nareema Khan, Ruth Wilson, Naiome Bacchus and Jeremy Fraser also spoke of their experience­s during the youth camp. They had the opportunit­y to engage and interact with youths from the Fairview Village among other activities.
