Ramdhani bags U17 girls doubles gold, Beharry takes U11 singles bronze

Sixteen-year-old Guyanese Priyanna Ramdhani’s fairytale run in CAREBACO continued on Tuesday as she registered gold in the Under-17 category of the Regional competitio­n in the girls’ doubles with Robyn Sobers of Barbados at the Ring Sports Center, Paramaribo Suriname. The round robin competitio­n saw the pair defeating Fiona Li and Demi Sjauw Koen Fa in match two 21-11, 21-12 before dismantlin­g Erisa Bluea and Chaista Soemodupoe­ro 23-21, 19-21, 21-10 to emerge with the most points at the end of the matches.

Meanwhile, the two-time gold medalist at CAREBACO Juniors marched into the U17 final by defeating Kayleigh Moenne 21-11, 21-5. She also reached the final of the mixed doubles event after teaming with Trinidad and Tobago’s Vance Juteram to defeat Danny Chen and Soemodipoe­ro 21-12, 12-21, 21-16.

Guyana gained a second medal when Mishka Beharry secured bronze in the U11 girls’ singles round robin final. Beharry lost to T’Shelle Barnes of Trinidad and Tobago 21-5, 21-2 but returned in the following match to defeat Suriname’s Megan Chen 21-14, 21-12. The Guyana Football Federation [GFF] officially launched the Internatio­nal Federation of Associatio­n Football [FIFA] Refereeing Assistance Programme [RAP] yesterday at the Critchlow Labour College, Woolford Avenue.

The forum, which caters for 35 individual­s, will feature technical and practical sessions. It will be facilitate­d by Peter Prendergas­t, FIFA’s Technical Instructor and Facilitato­r.
