Teens to face trial over rape of girl, 11
Three teenage boys were yesterday committed to stand trial for the rape of an 11-year-old girl.
Caozuyha Menuy, 18, a 15-yearold and a 14-year-old stand accused of the crime.
The charge against them alleges that the three teenagers, between October 1st and October 31st, 2017, at Soesdyke, engaged in sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16.
At the conclusion of the preliminary inquiry into the charge in Georgetown yesterday, Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman informed the three youths that they were committed to stand trial at the next practicable sitting of the Demerara Assizes.
The accused, who were granted bail after their first court appearance, will remain on free on bail until their trial. The Preliminary Inquiry (PI) into the murder charge against Erwin Bacchus, who is accused of murdering Jason De Florimonte, began yesterday with testimony from the girlfriend and a cousin of the deceased.
Principal Magistrate Judy Latchman is presiding over the PI, while the prosecution is being led by attorney Dexter Todd, who has been appointed special prosecutor.
Bacchus is being represented by attorney Nigel Hughes, in association with Glenn Hanoman.
It is alleged that on August 4th, at Subryanville, Bacchus murdered De Florimonte.
When the PI continued yesterday, the court heard from Christine Rambarran, who was with De Florimonte for eight years. Michael Whitehead, a cousin of the deceased, also testified.
Both witnesses were subsequently cross-examined by Hughes. The matter was later adjourned until Friday. Police had said De Florimonte was fatally shot after a confrontation with Bacchus, the owner of the Tourist Villa hotel, located at Lot 95 Fifth Avenue Subryanville, Kitty, Georgetown.
