A biker of Agricola, East Bank Demerara died in an accident yesterday afternoon on the Essequibo Coast and a pedestrian was hospitalised.

The deceased biker has been identified as Naitram Sankar, 28, an Auto Electrician, of Lot 32 Public Road Agricola, East Bank Demerara. The injured pedestrian has been identified as Juliet Miller, 56, of Kilkenny Street, Queenstown, Essequibo Coast.

Police yesterday said that around 1 pm, on the Queenstown Public Road, Sankar, a member of the GY Bikers Crew was riding motor cycle # CG 1530 when the accident occurred.

In a press statement, police said enquiries disclosed that the motorcycle which was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the road at a fast rate, ended up on the western parapet and collided with the pedestrian and then crashed into a utility pole on the said parapet.

Both Sankar and Miller were picked up by publicspirited citizens and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital for medical attention.

Sankar, who is a wellknown driver and biker for BM Soat Auto Sales was pronounced dead on arrival while Miller was admitted to the hospital where she is nursing a fractured hip.

Over at his Agricola home, Sankar’s uncle Michael Sudeen was still trying to come to grips with reality.

“Only last Thursday made a month since I lose my son and now he dead… this is too much for me. He is like my own son. He start living with me since he was 16… this has shaken me up,” Sudeen related yesterday when he spoke with this newspaper.

He explained that he received a call from a family friend in Essequibo informing him of the accident. According to the uncle, he was first told that Sankar suffered a broken leg. Not long after, the uncle said he received a second phone call informing him of his nephew’s demise.

“…this thing has really shaken me. I can’t come to believe it. He left home Saturday with his biker friends and went there for Essequibo Night and was supposed to come back tomorrow (today),” the grieving uncle related.

Reminiscing on his nephew’s life, he said “he lived his life and always loved motorcycles and racing cars. He don’t drink and smoke… he directs everything to his bikes and cars.”
