Camptown, GFC move into quarterfinals
Defending champion Camptown and the Georgetown Football Club [GFC] sealed their respective quarterfinal berths, when the 2nd Annual Turbo Energy Drink Football Championship, continued yesterday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
The Campbellvillebased Camptown FC needled East Bank Demerara heavyweight Grove HiTech 1-0 in a bruising affair devoid of many chances.
Substitute forward, Jermaine ‘Sergio Aguero’ Beckles, was the difference on the night, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 75th minute.
Following a scoreless opening half, Beckles uncorked a thunderous strike from inside the left of the box, into the roof of the net, after latching onto a flicked-on a pass following a cross into the box.
Meanwhile, the GFC dismissed Den Amstel U20 by a 3-0 scoreline in the earlier showdown.
