Soft Drink Plant, Berbice notch victories

Soft Drink Plant and Berbice secured victories, when the Banks DIH Limited InterDepar­tment Cricket Championsh­ip, continued on Monday at the Thirst Park ground.

In the opening match, Soft Drink Plant defeated Vehicle Workshop by 12 runs. Batting first, Soft Drink Plant racked up 67-4 in their eight allotted overs.

M. Gomes top scored with 18 runs, while R. Boodram added 15 runs. For the bowlers, A. Adolphus recorded 2-15 in his two over spell, while T. Liverpool recorded 1-9.

In reply, Vehicle/Workshop could only muster 55-5. R. Backra amassed 22 runs [2x6s, 2x4s], with extras the next best scorer with 20.

J. Brewster was the pick of the bowlers with 2-3, while T. Abel and S. Parmanand tallied 2-9 respective­ly.

In the second match, Berbice defeated Demico House by seven wickets. Taking first strike, Demico recorded 74-5 in their eight overs.

D. Williams top scored with 17 runs [2x6s], while W. Yassin contribute­d 16 runs [2x6s] and H. Seeram chipped in with 14 runs [2x6s].

In reply, Berbice successful­ly overhauled the total, finishing on 75-3 in 7.3 overs. Extras was the highest contributo­r to the total with 39, with N. DeJong recording a game high 33 runs [4x6s].

The tournament continues tomorrow at the same venue with another doublehead­er. At 17:30hrs, Central Service tackles Distributi­on/Warehouse, while Head Office opposes Soft Drink Plant from 20:30hrs.
