Police pursuing suspect in restaurant stop robbery

Police are in pursuit of a suspect who they believe was involve in the robbery committed on a United States-based Guyanes family while they were at a restaurant in Alberttow Georgetown, on Thursday last.

Commander of ‘A’ Division Marlon Chapman, yesterda explained that no one was arrested but said they are current pursuing an individual.

Bandits reportedly broke into a minibus where a bag contain ing the valuables were stored. At the time of the robbery, th family was making a pit stop at the Kamboat Chinese restauran to purchase food after landing at the Cheddi Jagan Internatio­n Airport. With the minibus being left unattended, the bandi managed to gain access and robbed the family of millions wort of jewellery and gadgets. The bag was covered under a sweat in the bus behind the driver’s seat.

A relative of the family explained that the bag, which con tained jewellery, electronic­s and important documents, wa removed from the bus. The family, however, managed to recov the documents on the side of the parapet shortly afterwards. was also previously reported that the bag, belonging to Fareeza Rambali and still containing most of the jewellery, was le behind due to its weight.

One resident had recalled seeing two individual­s on a moto cycle riding around the restaurant acting suspicious­ly.

The surveillan­ce footage from the restaurant showed the pe petrator committing the crime but it was impossible to identif him, the relative said.
