Bus driver charged with causing death of Vryheid’s Lust man

Andre Lindey, the minibus driver who allegedly struck down and killed pedal cyclist Taquin Springer more than three months ago along the Industry Railway Embank-ment Road was yesterday charged and released on $500,000 bail.

Lindey, 29, a resident of South Vryheid’s Lust, East Coast Demerara is accused of driving minibus BWW 283, in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Springer on August 1.

He was not required to plead to the offence when he appeared in the Sparandaam Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Zamilla AllySeepau­l. The matter was adjourned to January 4. 2019. Springer, 37 Lot 161 ‘D’ Field, South Turkeyen, Greater Georgetown, was struck down around 1.15 pm on Emancipati­on Day while riding a bicycle along the Industry Railway Embankment Road.

He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he succumbed later the said evening while receiving medical attention.

The police in a statement had said that at the time of the accident, Lindey was proceeding west along the southern carriagewa­y of the road when Springer suddenly rode out of the southern access road before turning west.

He then reportedly turned into Lindey’s path and they collided.

Springer was picked up by Lindey and rushed to the hospital.

A breathalys­er test had revealed that Lindey had no trace of alcohol in his blood at the time of the accident.
