Trinidad and Tobago’s Shiva Boys Hindu School, were crowned the inaugural KFC Goodwill Football Champions after squeaking past Christianburg/Wismar 2-1 on Saturday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta Avenue.
It was the third consecutive win for the Twin Island Republic side, following lopsided wins over Annai Secondary and Annandale Secondary respectively.
The foreigners got off to the perfect start of maintaining their perfect record when Stevon Thomas scored in the 39th minute.
However, Tyrice Lewis equalised for the Linden unit in the 60th minute, setting up a tense finish.
Nonetheless, Shiva Boys would maintain their unbeaten status as well as seal the championship compliments of a Gesiah Bishop strike in the 81st minute.
Due to the outcome, Shiva Boys finished on nine points from their allotted three matches with the losing team ending in the third position on two points.
Meanwhile, Annai clinched the second position, dismantling Annandale 6-0 score.
Own goals in the fifth and 25th minute commenced the rout for the Region #9 outfit.
Niaz Mohammed then got into the scoring act, etching his name on the scorer’s sheet in the 28th minute. The 3-0 score remained unchanged heading into the halftime interval.
Upon the resumption, Mohammed grabbed his second of the day to complete his double and put further distance between the sides in the 55th minute.
The rout continued in the 68th minute when Junior Rodrigues got into the scoring act and the carnage finally ended in the 80th minute when Naidison Daniels netted.
Annai Secondary finished on six points while Annandale ended in the cellar position without a point.
Nikel Rawlings of Shiva Boys copped the Most Valuable Player [MVP] award while Niaz Mohammed of Annai pocketed the Highest Goal Scorer accolade with four conversions.
