GPHC’s first Christmas baby hails from Canal #2

The first baby to be delivered at the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC) on Christmas Day 2018 is a boy and he arrived at exactly 12:12 am.

According to a Department of Public Informatio­n (DPI) press release, Taysuwatti­e Budhu, the mother of the hospital’s first 2018 Christmas baby, hails from Canal Number 2 village on the West Bank of Demerara. She was in high spirits and excited to know that her baby was successful­ly delivered and is healthy.

The DPI release added that this first Christmas delivery was followed by the arrival of at least four other babies during the course of the early morning.

Minister of Public Health, Volda Lawrence and senior hospital officials including the Chief Executive Officer, George Lewis and Kessaundra Alves, Chairman of the board, welcomed the newborn into the world and congratula­ted the happy mother.

Speaking directly to Budhu, the minister noted that it is quite a joyous occasion to celebrate the birth of a healthy baby during this festive season.

Minister Lawrence’s greeting to the babies of “Welcome to Guyana” was echoed throughout. She was also allowed to hold and introduce herself to the newborns.

Budhu and the other mothers who gave birth on this day benefitted from maternity hampers, compliment­s of the Georgetown Public Hospital and the Ministry of Public Health. These mothers include Kesha Wilkinson who gave birth to a girl, Sarifdeen Lakhan to a boy, Lisa Ramlill to a girl and Sierra Budraj, to a girl.
