-

Three men were remanded to prison yesterday after being charged with robbing a Zambia, Mibicuri South, Black Bush Polder (BBP) businessman on Christmas Day.

Floyd La Rose, 35, a labourer of Lot 38 Mibicuri South, BBP; Martin Kite, 46, a drainage and irrigation worker of Lot 140 Johanna North, BBP; and Dinesh Ramphal, 19, a labourer of Johanna North, BBP, appeared at the Number 51 Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Charlyn Artiga.

It is alleged that on 25th December 2018 at Mibicuri, BBP, while armed with guns, the trio robbed Claudette Duncan of cash, jewellery and items all valued $850,400. The men were not required to plead to the joint charge.

La Rose was unrepresented by counsel while Kite and Ramphal were represented by attorney Chandra Sohan.

Police Prosecutor Lennox Poliah objected to bail being granted. He cited the seriousness of the offence and the fact that the men are facing similar charges in the Mibicuri Court. He said that the men were positively identified by one of the victims.

Magistrate Artiga denied bail and set 7 January, 2019 at the Whim Magistrate’s Court for report.

Meanwhile, Kite’s wife, Angela Isaac, 36, of Skeldon New Housing Scheme was also charged with disorderly behaviour yesterday. It is alleged that on 26th December on the Mibicuri public road within public hearing and view, she behaved disorderly.

The mother of one pleaded not guilty to the charge and was released on self-bail.

Marvin Duncan, 79, owner of a general store and parlour at Lot 135 ‘A’ Zambia, Mibicuri South, BBP, had told Stabroek News that on Christmas Day, three men invaded his home and stole over $500,000 in cash and jewellery, along with several other items.

Duncan revealed that the masked men, armed with a gun each and one cutlass, carried out the attack. The perpetrators assaulted Duncan and his wife about their bodies.

Duncan, who sustained six head wounds, is continuing to receive treatment for his wounds. He and his wife Claudette were present in court yesterday for the matter.
