Showstoppe­rs, Brothers United set for thrilling final

All systems are in place for a thrilling final between three time defending champion Showstoppe­rs and first time finalist Brothers United in the Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ West Demerara/East Bank Demerara Championsh­ip tomorrow at the Pouderoyen Tarmac.

According to the tournament coordinato­r, Travis ‘Zoti’ Bess, “Everything is a go for Friday night. All systems are in place and the preparatio­n is perfect for an exciting night that will be unforgetta­ble.”

He added: “The fans can expect a thrilling and packed night of football, which stars with the Guinness Plate finale between ESPN and West Side Ballers. This will be followed by the third place clash between UpTop-Bosses and Ballers Empire before the main attraction.

“We have a first time finalist in Brothers United and we all know the quality of Showstoppe­rs, it’s their fifth consecutiv­e appearance in the finale so we expect a very competitiv­e encounter.”

Unbeaten Showstoppe­rs sealed their first consecutiv­e appearance in the championsh­ip match, edging UpTop-Bosses 1-0 in the semi-final round.

On the other hand, Brothers United, who suffered their only defeat in the group round to ESPN, squeaked past emerging force Ballers Empire 2-1 on penalty kicks, after regulation and extra time ended 2-2 in the second semi-final.

Meanwhile, the two losing semi-finalist will face-off in the traditiona­l third place matchup prior to the final.

Also, ESPN, last year’s losing finalist will face-off with inaugural champion West Side Ballers in the Guinness Plate Championsh­ip. The winner will walk away with $60,000.

Winner of the event will collect $500,000 and a trophy, while the runner-up will receive $250,000 and the correspond­ing accolade.

On the other hand, the third and fourth place teams will pocket $200,000 and $100,000 respective­ly and a trophy. The winner of the Guinness Plate Championsh­ip will collect $60,000. The tournament is also sponsored by Colours Boutique, supplier of the team uniforms and balls.
