Defending champs seek spot in knockout round

With several berths still remaining in the knockout round, the National Gymnasium will be a hive of activity tonight when the group stage matches of the 2ndAnnual National Sports Commission [NSC]/Magnum Mash Cup Futsal Championsh­ips conclude.

So far only seven teams have qualified for the eliminatio­n round and a further nine berths are up for grabs.

Among the notable teams that have yet to seal their places in the round of 16 stage and will be desperate for a positive result are Broad Street, defending champions Bent Street, Leopold Street, Sparta Boss, Tiger Bay and Albouystow­n.

In the opening match, Rhythm Ballers will engage Silver Bullets at 19:00hrs, with Ansa McAl facing off with Albouystow­n from 19:30hrs and North East La Penitence tackling BV-B at 20:00hrs.

In the fourth matchup, Stabroek Ballers will match skills with California Square at 20:30hrs, while Ol Skool Ballers oppose Broad Street from 21:00hrs and Avocado Ballers take aim at Melanie at 21:30hrs.

The seventh contest at 22:00hrs will pit Leopold Street Village against Agricola, with defending champion Bent Street locking horns with Kingston from 22:30hrs and Future Stars opposing Buxton Diamond at 23:00hrs.

The final fixture of the night will witness Sparta Boss battling North Ruimveldt from 23:30hrs.

Winner of the tournament will pocket $600,000, with the second and third place receiving $350,000 and $200,000 respective­ly. The fourth place side will collect $100,000.
