Danram powers UG past MSC

Former national youth batsman Omesh Danram yesterday swatted an unbeaten halfcentur­y to power the University of Guyana (UG) to a comfortabl­e seven-wicket win over the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) in the penultimat­e round of the New Building Society (NBS) Second Division forty overs tournament.

UG, chasing 220 for victory, reached 221 for 3 inside 26 overs with the r i g h t handed Danram slamming eight fours and four maximums in an unbeaten knock of 89 to see his side home.

He also shared in a 155 run-stand with Linden Austin, who made 57 inclusive of five fours and a maximum. The pair came together with the score on 55-2 after the loss of Melroy Stephenson (4) and Godfrey Thakurdin (33) and took the game away from MSC.

Skipper Nickhose Barker (1-41), Marcus Watkins (140) and Delon Dalrymple (1-31) were the wicket-takers for MSC, who had earlier won the toss and elected to bat and reached 219 for nine before their overs expired.

Opener Stephon Browne top scored with 37 while Barker (30) and Joseph Cupidore (30) both chipped in.
