GWI maps Karasabai water resources

-

In an effort to combat the existing difficulties of accessing water in the village of Karasabai, Region Nine, the Guyana Water Inc ( GWI) conducted a resistivity log to aid in the identification of additional water sources to adequately supply residents.

According to a GWI press release, resistivity logging entails the search for underground water sources through deep rock formation, for the drilling of new wells.

A report, detailing the results of this logging exercise, was handed over to Karasabai village representatives on Wednesday, by GWI’s Managing Director, Dr Richard Van WestCharles, in the presence of Executive Director of Hinterland Services, Ramchand Jailal.

Accepting the report on behalf of the village were Community Project Coordinator Ronald Lee Bing, and youth activists Seon Kartright and Marlon Edwards.

Bing stated that the works done on the water system under the previous administration resulted in an inadequate supply to the village for a number of years. However, he expressed his appreciation to GWI for its frequent visits and timely intervention.

The activities also included a geophysical survey, as well as an on-site analysis of local geology to determine the potential for extraction of water for public use.

GWI noted that Karasabai has a few hand dug and drilled wells that are inadequate to supply the existing demand in the community and distribute water to the entire population of approximately 1,500 persons. This observation was made during a recent visit. However, the logging exercise signals the beginning of works to improve the water system.
