Trafalgar still the `Greatest

-after 2-0 whipping of N/A Kings in Guinness Greatest of the Streets Berbice final

-

Despite the absence of Kevin Layne and Delroy Fraser, defending champion Trafalgar successfully retained their Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Berbice title, easing past New Amsterdam [NA] Kings 2-0 on Saturday in the grand finale.

The mammoth partisan crowd that swarmed the NA Ferry Tarmac, departed the venue in a gloomy state as the West Berbicians overcame their East Berbice counterparts, compliments of goals from Olvis Mitchell and Tevin McKenzie.

The nippy Mitchell opened the scoring in the 13th minute, slotting his effort through the legs of the final defender to silence the crowd, after racing onto a pass from Delwyn Fraser.

The contest was then sealed in the second half as McKenzie slotted home in the 27th minute to ensure the title remains in the West Coast Berbice district.

With the result, Trafalgar walked away with $400,000 and the winning team’s trophy. They also earned an automatic berth to the Guinness National Championship.

On the other hand, the Kings pocketed $150,000 and the corresponding accolade.

Meanwhile, East Bank Gunners defeated Litchfield 1-0 on penalty kicks following a scoreless regulation and extra time interval. They walked away with $100,000, with the losers $75,000.

In the earlier semi-final matches, Trafalgar defeated Litchfield 1-0 compliments of an 8th minute effort from Mitchell while NA Kings edged East Bank pocketing Gunners 2-0 on penalty kicks, after regulation and extra time ended 0-0. Also, NA Kings- were crowned the Guinness Plate Champions. They received $50,000 for their effort.

The Guinness Street Football phenomenon will now head into the East Coast Demerara zone next month. The event is also sponsored by Colours Boutique.
