Guyana Shore Base Inc. donates roller to DCC

The Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) Saturday received a new two-ton roller compliments of joint venture company Guyana Shore Base Inc.

The over $6M donation was made at the club’s home of legends pavilion at Lace Gibbs Street, Queenstown Georgetown during a simple handing over ceremony which was attended by the members of the club along with representatives of Shore Base Inc.

President of DCC, Roger Harper, in brief remarks, said the roller will contribute to raising the standard of the club’s match and practice pitches which augers well for the overall development of cricket at the club and Guyana.

“I would like to thank Guyana Shore Base Inc. for choosing to make such an important and significant donation to our club; for a club like ours to continue the path to success and continuing the path to producing legends,” Harper, who is considered a legend himself, remarked.

“This roller will automatically mean that our match pitches will be better prepared. It will mean that our practice patches will also be better prepared.

“However, significantly, it also means that we can now have two pitches on afternoons for practice… it will allow more players the opportunity in the afternoons to bat and bowl and this will have a direct impact on the hundreds of players who use our pitches and facilities.”

Harper, who is also the President of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), assured that the piece of will be cared, well used and maintained so as to ensure longevity.

General Manager of Shore Base Inc. Mark Edwards said the company was pleased to partner with such an august club whose sterling history prompted the company to make the donation.

Edwards said the company is equally excited about Guyana’s future, the future of the club and is hopeful that the contribution of the roller will now have an impact in molding the next generation of DCC legends.
