Traffic ranks in ‘C’ Division are currently on the hunt for a driver who was involved in a hit and run accident on Sunday night on the Annandale Railway Embankment road.

Police Commander, Calvin Brutus, told Stabroek News that they have gathered some information and are working to solve the case.

The accident on Sunday night claimed the life of Leon Fung-A-Fat, 31, of 162 Annandale South.

Delon, a brother of Fung-AFat, told Stabroek News that police have retrieved surveillance footage from a few supermarkets in the area and are currently working to enhance the video.

According to him, the footage reviewed showed that a silver-coloured car struck down his brother. He stated that the driver came out of the car and asked an eyewitness what it was he hit. After the driver learnt he had struck down a man, he hopped back into his car and drove away.

The surveillance footage also showed that the car suffered a tyre blowout, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle and collide with Fung-A-Fat.

The brother explained that he has been pleading with traffic ranks to review more surveillance footage.

He also lamented that his brother was left unattended for approximately 25 minutes before he was transported to the hospital.

“The eyewitness said he was stopping cars but nobody wanted to stop and help,” the brother said.

Stabroek News gathered that the man was struck down sometime after 9.30 pm on the Annandale Railway Embankment road.

The man’s mother told Stabroek News that she was sleeping when a relative woke her and told her that her son had been involved in an accident.

The woman said by the time she arrived at the hospital, Leon had been pronounced dead. She related that he sustained head injuries.
