19th P&P Insurance 11-stage set for Saturday
The country’s top wheelsmen will return to the inner circuit of the National Park, Thomas Lands, this Saturday, when they go head-to -head for the crown in the 19th edition of the P&P Insurance 11stage cycling programme organized by cycling coach, Hassan Mohammed.
Jamaul John won last year’s event in one hour, 16 minutes, 51 seconds but will be faced with a difficult task of retaining the title in the 35-lap feature schoolboys and invitational event.
Among the contenders that vie for the title are Romello Crawford, who has been impressive on the international circuit lately, as well as Linden’s Michael Anthony who clocked in one hour, 20 minutes last weekend to win that event.
Deeraj Garbarran will be dreading his mistakes from last year that saw him moving from an easy win to being burned out with a few laps left. Nevertheless, the We Stand United Rider will have blood in his eyes come Saturday.
Briton John, who has secured the Junior/Juveniles category for the past two editions has also been competitive, finishing second last week and stands in contention this weekend.
Also, last year’s runner up, Christopher Griffith and his team Evolution partner, Paul DeNobrega are also in good spirits heading into the race.
Last year, Steve Bhansen was the only rider in the 12-14 years old category, completing the three laps in eight minutes while Lear Nunes copped the top spot of the Under-50 division five lap race in 11 minutes and 25 seconds. McKay finished second as Sequan Hubbard rounded off the podium.
In the Over 50 event, Ian Jackson dominated with Kennard Lovell finishing second and Linden Blackman in third.
2017’s 35-lap winner, Mario King this year rode the Mountain Bike division, proving to be the best, ahead of Jude Bentley and Jamal Campbell.
Jarred Barrington, Javin Henry and Jessica Mohabir finished in that order of the 6-9 years category.
