Farmers Market App launched

-

The Ministry of Public Telecommunications, in collaboration with Innovative Systems, yesterday launched the FarmersMarket.GY app in Onverwagt, West Coast Berbice.

According to the Department of Public Information (DPI), the application will allow farmers to be in direct contact with buyers, ensuring the best prices for their produce.

DPI said that to use the app, the farmer must first create an account to post their listings. From here they will then go through a verification process after which they will be able to post what and how much produce they have for sale. They will also be able to view requests for specific produce thus allowing them to plant strategically to meet demands. Buyers can create an account, search for their desired produce, and then choose a payment method.

DPI said that the application allows for payments to be made via cash, cheque, Mobile Money, Wire Transfers or payment through credit card.

Minister of Public Telecommunications, Catherine Hughes delivered the feature address at the launch.

DPI said that the idea for the application was birthed from the annual Hackathon event hosted by the Ministry of Public Telecommunications.

The app also has a rating and review system.

The Ministry of Public Telecommunications has been working alongside the National Agriculture Research and Extension Institute to source the farmers and their produce for the platform.
