Trend of negativity in The Conversation Tree column

-

Dear Editor,

One cannot help perusing the The Conversation Tree column in SN’s Sunday, as it contains, from time to time, some pertinent observations largely with respect to the political environment of the day.

In the process, however, it is difficult for the reader not to detect a trend of negativity obtaining in the weekly pronouncements of one of ANUG’s leaders.

Justified as these may be, there is the absence of recommendations for remedial strategy or actions to address the carefully analysed defects identified in our governance environment as a whole.

So that instead of contributing to the several other dark prognostications that cover the daily news, some of us would prefer the foremost leader of a new political force to seize the opportunity to show how it can rise above the current morass of deficiencies created by the failed leaderships.

Given the fact that the emergence of ANUG was inspired by the palpable need for a fresh and more disciplined governance structure, it becomes imperative for this new grouping of intelligence to articulate for us, the way it could contribute to the formulation of a more productive future.

In brief, focusing on weaknesses of whatever kind, does not by itself effect their repair. What is urgently needed is direction towards a new road map of positive action to retrieve the endemic social division, along with a fundamental reconstruction of managing the affairs of the nation – particularly bearing in mind the new challenges to be offered by the intervention of oil and related industries.

In short, what is required is more than just about repairing the defective behavioural habits of the past, substantive as they maybe; but in fact, to strive to institute a totally new philosophy of unity in action; to communicate a message of teamanship at the respective institutional levels, complemented by the highest standard of professionalism and integrity amongst leaders – as exemplars to followers across communities.

Yours faithfully,

E.B. John
