Youth gets three years for seawall robbery

-

A youth was yesterday sentenced to three years in jail after being found guilty of robbing a couple at the Kingston seawall.

Seon Ray, who was on trial before Magistrate Rondell Weaver, was found guilty of two counts of robbery

The first charge stated that on June 15th, at Kingston, Georgetown, in the company of another, Ray robbed Tyrell Chu of two phones, valued $10,000, a $5,000 haversack, and a $2,000 portion of perfume. The second charge stated that Ray robbed Isham Singh of a $2,500 haversack, a silver chain valued $10,000, a $35,000 phone and a $5,000 silver ring, along with other items totalling $56,000.

At the conclusion of his trial yesterday, Ray heard that he was found guilty of the crimes.

The magistrate subsequently sentenced him to three years for each offence, however he will only serve three years in total as the sentences are to run concurrently.

Ray was originally charged alongside Navin Ally for the crimes. However, Ally pleaded guilty to the crimes on June 17th and was later sentenced.

It was the prosecutor’s case that on the day in question the complainants were having lunch on the seawall behind the Pegasus Hotel, near a construction area. The court heard that the two men would have approached the couple, told them not to move or they would shoot and proceeded to relieve them of the articles mentioned in the charges.

After the men fled, the complainants raised an alarm in the hearing of persons at the nearby construction site, a police rank on duty at the Pegasus Hotel and a patrol vehicle. Ally was later apprehended with Singh’s items in his possession, while Ray was found with Chu’s articles.
