Waldrond, France record tidy all-round efforts
-GDF, GYO, GNIC record wins
Match-winning all-round performances from Damion Waldrond and Trevon France captured the spotlight in yesterday’s round of matches in this year’s New Building Society (NBS), Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA) second-division 40-overs tournament.
Waldrond, who turns out for the Guyana Defence Force (GDF), was clinical with both bat and ball as GDF defeated Third Class by 128 runs at Eve Leary.
GDF, after winning the toss, elected to bat and posted 197 all out, dismissed in the 33rdover.
Waldrond (75) and Leon Andrews (44) were the principal contributors as Ricardo Ghisiawan (4-37) and Teekaram George (265) shared six wickets between them.
Third Class in response were routed for 69 as Waldrond returned with the ball to snatch 5-14 while Andrews, who also had an excellent all-round effort, snatched 4-25 to complete the formality.
Meanwhile, over at the Everest Cricket Club Ground, the Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO) got past Diplomats by 119 runs on the back of a complete performance by France.
GYO, who were sent in by Diplomats, posted 233 for eight from their 40 overs with France producing an unbeaten knock of 70. He found support from Darshan Persaud (36), Trenton Liverpool (25) and Joshua Ramsammy (23). Airan Foster (3-40) was the pick of the bowlers for Diplomas who folded for 114.
France returned to grab 3-13 while Liverpool (311) helped complete the win.
The final match of the day saw the Guyana National Industrial Corporation getting the better of Bel Air Rubis by 33 runs at the Demerara Cricket Club (DCC) ground.
GNIC, who opted to bat after winning the toss, reached 224 for eight. Marc Nicholson (70) was the mainstay of the innings while Sean Dsouza (34) and Dexter Solomon (23) failed to convert starts. The wickets were shared among Shivnarine Budhu (2-28), Archer Duke (2-27) and Arvinda Gainda (239).
Bel Air, in their first match at the GCA level, made a fist of it, reaching 191, surrendering by 33 runs.
Fifty-five-year-old Duke wielded the long handle to post 76 which included nine fours and seven sixes while Budhu (31) shared in a healthy stand with Duke which kept their side in the hunt. Jeremiah Benjamin (2-37), Ranole Bourne (2-34) and John Champagne (2-9) were the men who did the damage with the ball for GNIC.
