Novices category added to today’s Hand-in-Hand multi-race fixture

-

In an effort to steer more riders towards competitive cycling locally, the novices category will be added to programmes starting today with the Hand-in-Hand multirace fixture scheduled for the National Park from 09:30hrs.

Persons who are now getting into the sport or who have never finished on the podium in a cycling race will be eligible to compete in the six-lap event.

The Hand-in-Hand Insurance Company will provide refreshment for all the cyclists competing in today’s programme which will see Guyana’s best pedal pushers going wheel-to-wheel.

Today’s proceedings will be headlined by the 35-lap Schoolboys and Invitational race, with Michael Anthony of Linden looking to defend his title, having won last year’s event in a time of one hour, 19 minutes, 14.36s.

Other winners from 2018 were Adelia Hodge (10-lap Juveniles), Ozia McAully (Mountain Bikes), Jude Bentley (Veterans Under-50) and Jaheme Henry (12-14 Boys and Girls).

Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Companies have been a firm supporter of sports development in Guyana, and this collaboration with cycling is just another demonstration of that commitment.

“The Hand-in-Hand Fire Insurance Company is happy to be able to sponsor this annual event for its 15th year and we anticipate that this year will be bigger and better.

“We will continue to remain committed to our youth’s development through sporting event such as cycling while fulfilling our corporate and social responsibility,” a company representative said in a statement.

As has been the case over the last 14 years, representatives of Hand-in-Hand Mutual Fire and Life Insurance Companies will be on hand to witness the riders in action and later assist in the distribution of prizes.
