RHT Thunderbolts beat Albion to reach final
Rose Hall Town Thunderbolts on Saturday scored a three-wicket win over Albion to book their spot in the final of the Berbice Cricket Board/Stag 50-over first division tournament.
At the Area H ground, the hosts, Thunderbolts won the toss and opted to field.
Albion were contained to 204 all out in 46.1 overs while Thunderbolts held their composure to reach 205-7 in 46 overs.
Albion were gutted by the Thunderbolts’ spinners. Off-spinner, Kevin Sinclair started proceedings with the wicket of Ritesh Umroa for 10 before seamer, Sylus Tyndall (2-30) removed Sarwan Chaitnarine and Gudakesh Motie in succession.
Left-arm orthodox, Keith Simpson ran through the middle order to end with 3-48 including the wicket of top scorer Ramesh Kassinath who was trapped leg before.
Kassinath’s innings of 78 featured four fours and four sixes and he shared in a 42-run, fourth-wicket partnership with Jeetendra Outar, who made 27, hitting two fours along the way.
Kassinath also shared in a fifthwicket partnership of 42 with Anthonio February (19).
Off-spinner, Junior Sinclair in his comeback spell whisked through the lower order to end with 3-40 and then returned to open the batting to give Thunderbolts some stability after they were 3-36 at one stage.
Delbert Hicks joined the 19year-old opener to put on 55 for the fourth-wicket. That partnership was broken when the opener was dismissed for 45 after hitting three fours and one six.
Hicks carried on for the top score with 60 consisting of three fours and four sixes. He added 59 for the fifth wicket alongside Kevlon Anderson (39).
Jonathan Rampersaud’s unbeaten 20 eventually steered Thunderbolts over the line as Motie bagged 3-20 with his left-arm spin.
Meanwhile, Tucber Park and Upper Corentyne have both booked spots in the semifinals after onewicket victories on Saturday.
At Cumberland, Young Warriors Cricket Club were contained to 180-9 with Seon Hetmyer top scoring with 56 and supported by Alex Algoo (35) and Kassim Khan (24).
Tucber Park then responded with 186-7 in 47.2 overs with Devon Clements leading the way with 40. Young Warriors were kept in close contention as Khan and Trevon Stanislaus both took 3-30.
At No.69 Ground, Upper Corentyne dismantled the Blairmont batting line up for 113 in 32.2 overs as Devendra Budhoo took 4-12. Nigel Deodat (27) and N. Nazir (24) were the principal scorers.
In reply, Deodat returned to take 2-21 in support of Waquar Hassan (4-20) but cameos from A. Hemchand (27), N. Yaccob (23) and L. Roopchand (15) were enough to book their spot in the semi on Saturday at Tucber Park.
