No bail for labourer charged over Leopold St wounding

A labourer, who police say was one of two men who wounded a man during a confrontation at Leopold Street, was remanded to prison yesterday. Adrian Scott, 26, of Lot 530 ‘C’ Field, Sophia, was arraigned before Principal Magistrate Sherdel IsaacsMarcus on Monday, on the charge that on October 7th, at Leopold Street, Werken-Rust, Georgetown, with intent to harm or disfigure, he unlawfully and maliciously wounded Arlington Harper.

Scott pleaded not guilty to the charge and his attorney, Keoma Griffith, said there is video footage that clearly shows a different person harming Harper. In seeking bail, Griffith noted that Scott, a father of two young children and a labourer at John Fernandes Limited, strongly denied the allegation.

When asked whether he had any previous encounters with the law, Scott related to the court that he was charged previously for a similar offence and had to compensate the complainant in that instance. Police prosecutor Shellon Daniels strongly objected to Scott being released on bail, while noting that Harper could not attend the hearing because he was still in the hospital.

She told the court that after committing the offence, the accused handed the weapon, a gun, over to another man, Kurt Carter, who allegedly ran away with it.

The court heard from Daniels that Harper had gone to Leopold Street to attend a party. However, Scott, who had an old grievance with him, spotted him and then left and returned with Carter. Carter allegedly confronted the victim and a fight ensued. When everything was over, Scott allegedly gave the gun to Carter, who took off with it. Daniels later objected to bail due to the fact that a gun was used in the commission of the crime. In fact, she said bail should be refused and a date set for a report on the victim’s condition. Scott was subsequently remanded until November 18th.
