-

West Demerara earned their second win of the SBF Petroleum/Cric k et Guy Incorporated Jaguars 50-over Franchise League after defeating Georgetown by 44 runs yesterday at Tuschen Ground.

After losing the toss, West Demerara were sent into bat and made 162-5 from their allotted overs. West Demerara then contained an imposing Georgetown batting line up to 118 all out in 34.2 overs.

West Demerara’s batting once again centered around their captain, Tagenarine Chanderpaul who scored a patient 51.

The left-hander stroked just two bound- aries in his innings of over two hours. After losing his opening partner, Ronaldo Renee for two, the batsman guiding a simple catch to Joshua Persaud off of Paul Wintz, Chanderpaul forged an 89-run stand with Tevin Imlach.

The pair put the Georgetown bowlers to the sword for 30 overs as Imlach shifted gear to a slower rate after hitting Steven Jacobs for two sixes in one over. He was then happy to take the singles and rotate the strike with only one more six and a four being hit before he was bowled by leg-spinner, Steven Sankar for 47.

Jacobs returned to remove national Under-17 player, Andre Seepersaud for four while Ashmead Nedd accounted for the wicket of Malcolm Hubbard cheaply to bring the city side back in the contest.

Chanderpaul, in an effort to up the scoring rate, was bowled by Wintz who finished with 2-22 in the 48th over but it was Mahendra Dhanpaul’s unbeaten 18-run cameo that spurred West Demerara over 150.

In the chase Leon Johnson top scored with 39 and was supported by Joshua Persaud who made 29. Seamer, Javon Hector returned 3-18 while Keshram Seyhodan took 3-20.
