Autopsy confirms Bourda pensioner died of strangulation

-

Marva Oudkerk, the pensioner who was discovered dead in her Bourda Street more than one week ago, was strangled, an autopsy has confirmed.

The autopsy was performed on Wednesday by Government Pathologist Dr Nehaul Singh, who gave her cause of death as strangulation and blunt trauma to the head.

When contacted yesterday afternoon, Commander of Region 4 (a) (AgricolaCumming’s-Lodge), Assistant Commissioner

Marlon Chapman told Stabroek News that the investigation is ongoing but the police have not yet made any arrest.

The lifeless body of 67year-old Oudkerk was found last Thursday evening in a bedroom of her Lot 241 Bourda Street, Georgetown home.

Police spokesman Jairam Ramlakhan had said that at the time of the discovery, Oudkerk’s body was on a bed with a mosquito net “tightly wrapped” around her neck.

Stabroek News was previously informed that

Oudkerk lived alone at the house, which belonged to women and gender equality activist Magda Pollard.

The discovery was made by Oudkerk’s only child, Makada Oudkerk and Gigi Pollard, Magda’s niece.

Relatives had told this newspaper that Oudkerk lived with Pollard and took care of her for over 20 years. Following Pollard’s death, Oudkerk was reportedly told that she could remain at the house for as long as she wanted.

It is suspected that the bandit/s gained entry into the heavily grilled house by removing two floorboards from the kitchen area.

The house, including Oudkerk’s bedroom, was ransacked and valuables were said to be missing.

From all indications, relatives had said, Oudkerk may have resisted her attacker/s and she was strangled as a result.
