Top teams post opening night victories
Defending champion Sparta Boss, Bent St, Tiger Bay and Showstoppers clinched opening night wins on Thursday in the annual GT Beer ‘Keep Ya Five Alive’ Futsal Championship.
Hosted at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue, the Spartans crushed Charlotte Street by a 5-1 score.
Deon Alfred led the rout with a double while Ryan Hackett, Kelsey Benjamin and Dennis Edwards scored one goal each.
On the other hand, Bent Street edged Broad Street 2-1. Adrian Aaron and William Europe scored in the 14th second and 11th minute each.
For the losers, Carl Griffith found the back of the net in the 15th minute. Meanwhile Tiger Bay mauled Melanie-B 3-0. Orin Moore fashioned a double in the fifth and 11th minute.
Adding a conversion in the 14th minute was Keoma Gravesande. Similarly, Showstoppers downed LA Ballers 2-0. Dexroy Adams and Marvin Josiah scored in the ninth and 13th minute apiece.
In other results, Alexander Village dismissed Ol Skool Ballers 30 while Bad-a-Yard edged Upsetters 2-1 and Avocado Ballers needled Leopold Street 1-0.
Also BV squeaked past Stabroek Ballers 1-0 while Back Circle and North East La Penitence battled to a scoreless draw.

Winner of the event will pocket $550,000, with the second, third and fourth placed sides collecting $250,000, $125,000 and $75,000 respectively.
