Back-to-back matches for Jaguars 50-over Franchise teams this weekend
The eight franchises in the SBF Petroleum/Cricket Guy Inc., Jaguars 50-over Franchise league will brace themselves for back-toback matches this weekend.
So far in the competition, defending champions, Essequibo, and Lower Corentyne, have distanced themselves from the rest as they remain unbeaten after three rounds.
Lower Corentyne’s Jonathan Foo currently leads the runs chart with 125, just one run ahead of Essequibo’s Kemol Savory. East Coast’s Amir Khan and West Demerara’s Tagenarine Chanderpaul are the only other players with over 100 runs.
In the bowling department, Lower Corentyne seamer Nial Smith and Essequibo’s left-arm spinning captain, Anthony Adams have nine wickets each. Adams has a superior economy rate of just 2.7 compared to Smith’s 5.6.
Essequibo will be brimming with confidence as they defended 82 against a strong Shimron Hetmyerled West Berbice Unit. They face West Demerara who have also been fairly consistent with two wins. This showdown will take place at the Georgetown Cricket Club ground today.
Adams told this publication that his team “is even more motivated to continue their march and retain the title,” noting that it is the unity in the side and the ability for any player to be called upon and put their hand up and do well.
Lower Corentyne is booked to battle West Berbice who will want to bounce back to winning ways especially at the home of Hetmyer, Young Warriors ground where the match goes down. However, with the likes of Jonathan Foo, Kevlon Anderson, Kelvin Umroa and Veerasammy Permaul, Lower Corentyne will not be a walk over.
Georgetown are yet to win a match while Upper Corentyne have turned their fortunes around with the return of Clinton Pestano and Anthony Bramble who’s innings saw them recording their first win in the previous round ahead of today’s Bush Lot encounter.
In the fourth and final match of the round, East Bank will want to remain on a winning streak when they battle Amir Khan’s East Coast who have been less than impressive this season. But with a 200plus score under their belt, East Coast will be bringing their best at the Enmore Community Centre ground.
Tomorrow, the powerhouses will clash at the Young Warriors ground when the defending champions face Lower Corentyne while West Berbice and Upper Corentyne face off at Bush Lot to stay alive in the tournament.
The Leon Johnson-led Georgetown and Vishaul Singh-led East Bank will go up against each other at GCC and East Coast will host West Demerara at Enmore.
