Faydeha King makes it to semifinal in Miss Earth pageant

-

Faydeha King took Guyana’s ranking at the 19th Miss Earth pageant to the semifinals this past Sunday at Cove Manila, in the Philippines when she competed against other contestants from 85 countries.

The culmination of almost a month of activities saw Miss Earth Guyana and the other contestants competing for the coveted Miss Earth title where each woman represented their advocacy for the protection and preservation of our planet.

At the beginning of Sunday’s competition, the semifinalists were chosen based on prejudged categories on the criteria of Figure and Form, Beauty of Face and Form (No Make Up Challenge) and Intelligence. Faydeha was among the 20 semifinalists selected.

The event opened with all the contestants making onstage appearances to introduce themselves while outfitted in radiant floral outfits. They then returned in their swimwear and that was when the 20 semifinalists were revealed.

Guyana Premier said in a press release that the names of the top 20 were called in random order beginning with Russia. When Guyana was called, the release said, Faydeha’s excitement and surprise were evident.

This marks the first time that Guyana made it to the semifinal at the Miss Earth pageant since its start 19 years ago and just two years after being under the directorship of local brand, Guyana Premier.

Nellys Pimentel of Puerto Rico was crowned this year’s Miss Earth by the outgoing titleholder Nguyen Phuong Khanh of Vietnam.

Faydeha is thrilled at placing and overjoyed at Puerto Rico’s win as the two of them were roommates during their stay in Philippines, had grown close and were rooting for each other in the run-up to the big day.

In addition to her semifinal placement, Faydeha also copped the bronze medal for the Resort Wear Preliminary Competition.

In September of this year the Miss Earth Guyana Organization launched its eco-magazine, making Guyana the first participating country to launch a digital and eco-friendly magazine. The magazine, Bloom, is 100% ecofocused.

Last year, Guyana won the gold medal for national costume. The competition, which was done by continent, saw Guyana’s representative Xamiera Kippins taking the win for that category.

The golden fiery bronze/gold costume depicted the Ole Higue. The costume was created by designer Randy Madray. Xamiera was also awarded the silver medal for her talent.

Faydeha’s national costume was Queen Amazonica Victoria

Regia, depicting Guyana’s national flower. The costume was designed by Dexter Gardener.

Miss Earth Guyana 2019 was sponsored by Demerara Bakery Inc, Nand Persaud Group of Companies, the Government of Guyana, Massy Store Guyana and Precise Printing.
