-

A Linden chicken farmer who allegedly robbed three persons living in Kuru Kururu while threatening them with a cutlass was remanded to prison on Friday after he was charged with armed robbery.

Joel Morrison appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, where he denied the charges after they were read to him.

The first charge alleged that on August 31st at Kuru Kururu, while being in the company of another and armed with a cutlass and hammer, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Aubrey Richardson and stole two phones, valued $52,000 and other articles valued $112,000.

It was further alleged that on August 30th, at Kuru Kururu, while in the company of another and armed with a cutlass and hammer, Morrison stole a phone valued $50,000 and other articles valued $58,000 from Felicia Roach.

The final charge stated that on the same date and at the same location, Morrison, who was in the company of another and armed with a cutlass and hammer, robbed Valencia Taylor of a phone valued $60,000.

Prosecutor Brian Sukhna objected to bail citing the seriousness and the prevalence of the offence in addition to the fact that weapons were used to commit the crime. He then disclosed that Morrison was convicted for armed robbery in 2015 and had been ordered to serve a 48-month sentence.

In relation to Richardson, he said, on the day in question about 12.15 am, he was awakened by Morrison and his accomplice. The two men, who were standing in Richardson’s bedroom, brandished their weapons and forcibly relieved Richardson of the articles mentioned after which they fled the scene. A report was made and on October 25 th , police led an investigation operation, which resulted in the arrest of Morrison, who was placed on an identification parade, where he was identified by all three complainants.

Morrison was remanded to prison and will make his next court appearance regarding the matter on November 8th, at the Providence Magistrate’s Court.
