Bus driver agrees to compensate friend after attack

After a disagreeme­nt with a friend ended in violence, a bus driver has agreed to pay the man compensati­on in order for him to drop the resulting criminal charge.

Marlon King, 39, appeared on Wednesday before Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty on the charge that he unlawfully and maliciousl­y inflicted grievous bodily harm upon Godfrey Felix on

October 25th, at Water Street, Georgetown. Felix told the court that he was willing to drop the charge if he is compensate­d $360,000 by King.

King, a Route 42 bus driver, pleaded not guilty just before his friend, who could not stand in court due to the injury to one of his feet, told the court that they had come to an agreement for payment of $360,000 as compensati­on.

The court heard that the two were having a conversati­on when they got into a disagreeme­nt and King cuffed Felix. Felix added that King has showed remorse for the incident.

While King did not have the money with him, he assured the court that he would pay the sum in parts by November 25th, the next date set for the matter to be heard.

The Guyana Defence Force (GDF) is selling an unservicea­ble Bell Helicopter as part of the upgrading of its fleet of aircraft.

A GDF advertisem­ent in yesterday’s Sunday Stabroek said that the Bell 412, registrati­on – 8RGFP, Year – 1982, serial no. 33040 has the capacity to accommodat­e two crew members and 13 passengers.

Inspection of the helicopter can be done up to tomorrow. Offers must be delivered by Friday 15 th November, 2019 to the Procuremen­t Office at Camp Ayanganna.
