Sparta Boss, Gold is Money set up super Saturday showdown

Sparta Boss will faceoff with Gold is Money while Rio All-Stars will battle Bent Street in the semi-final round of the inaugural Rio indoor championsh­ips following quarterfin­al wins on Saturday night at the National Gymnasium, Mandela Avenue.

According to an official release from the coordinato­rs, “The quarterfin­al matches did not disappoint as the large crowd which descended on the venue, were treated to thrilling action. The four remaining teams are the best in the event and the semi-finals are expected to be an exhilarati­ng affair. Traditiona­l sides Sparta Boss, Gold is Money and Bent Street are once again in the final four while Rio All-Stars, the new kids on the block, have officially earned the status of heavyweigh­ts following their clinical performanc­e over a perennial contender.”

Sparta Boss battled past Beterverwa­gting [BV] 4-2 in a match which required extra time. Eusi Phillips bagged a double in the ninth and 32nd, while Deon Alfred tallied a brace in the 28th and 36th minute. For the loser, Omari Glasgow and Jemar Harrigon scored in the 13th and 27th minute each.

Similarly, Gold is Money edged Leopold Street 3-2. Solomon Austin tallied a double in the 35th and 37th minute, while Kiefer Brandt scored in the 17th minute. For the loser, Tyrese Forde and Omallo Williams netted in the 19th and 33rd minute respective­ly.

Meanwhile, Rio All-Stars mauled Future Stars 6-1. Job Caesar fashioned a hat-trick in the seventh, 13th and 27th minute. Adding goals in the 25th, 28th and 29th minute apiece were Jermin Junior, Kelsey Benjamin and Andrew Murray Jr.

For Future Stars, Daniel Ross scored in the 26th minute. Also, Bent Street downed Back Circle 3-1. Daniel Wilson, Pernell Schultz and Clive Nobrega scored in the fifth, 12th and 25th minute each. For Back Circle, Stephon McLean scored in the 20th minute.

The resulting victors will faceoff on Saturday December 14th in the semi-final round at the same venue. The finals and 3rd place playoff will also be staged on the same date. Winner of the event will pocket $1,000,000 and the championsh­ip trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers will collect $400,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respective­ly and the correspond­ing accolade.
