Three accused in Charlestown bond break-in get bail
Three men, who police say stole $632,000 in articles from a storage bond, were granted their release on bail by a city magistrate yesterday.
Carl Mangal, 28, and Roger Phillips, 30, of Lot 31 Broad Street, Charlestown, and Leonard Allicock, 33, of Albouystown, appeared in the courtroom of Magistrate Clive Nurse yesterday morning and denied a joint charge of breaking and entering a storage bond and stealing a quantity of articles.
The charge states that on December 21st, 2019, at Charlestown, they broke and entered the storage bond of a business place and stole a quantity of articles amounting to $632,000, which were the property of Tee Sheng Lee. Moments after the charge was read to the three men, attorney Paul FungA-Fat, who was representing Mangal and Rogers, told the court that his clients were innocent. He went on to say that no articles had been found on his clients. The court was also told that Mangal and Phillips had just left a fish shop when the police approached them and told them of the allegation against them.
Phillips then informed the magistrate that he had been shot by the police and was also suffering from unrelated eye problems.
After listening to the men, the magistrate asked the police prosecutor whether he objected to them being released on bail. With the prosecutor saying he would not be objecting, the magistrate set bail at $150,000 each and adjourned the proceedings until January 7th, 2020.
