GFF Super16 action on today at Eve Leary ground

The Guyana Football Federation [GFF] year-end football competitio­n resumes today at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary with a quarterfin­al doublehead­er.

Fruta Conquerors will engage Linden outfit Milerock in the opening match at 18:30hrs. The Tucville unit, in their opening match, dismissed Buxton Stars 40. Meanwhile, Milerock downed Pele to kick off their campaign.

In the second match, Western Tigers will battle the Guyana Police Force [GPF] from 21:00hrs. The West Ruimveldt unit kicked off their tournament with a hard-fought 4-2 win over Rivers View. On the other hand, the lawmen arrested Timehri Panthers 6-2 in their previous outing.

Action in the quarterfin­al section will continue on Boxing Day (tomorrow) at the Georgetown Football Club [GFC] ground, Bourda. In the opening match, defending champion Den Amstel will lock horns with Santos at 18:30hrs.

Den Amstel commenced their title defense with a 4-1 victory over Mocha based Riddim Squad. On the other side, Santos bested Eagles of Stewartvil­le 4-0 in their opener. The main fixture of the evening will pit the Guyana Defence Force [GDF] against Buxton United from 21:00hrs. The army unit outflanked Mainstay Stars 5-0 in their previous engagement while

Buxton Untied crushed New Amsterdam [NA] United 6-1 in their earlier showdown. The respective winners will progress to the semi-final section.

The team emerging the winner on January 1st, 2020 will be rewarded with two million dollars and the championsh­ip trophy, with the losing finalist pocketing one million. The third and fourth place finishers will receive $500, 000 and $250,000 respective­ly and the correspond­ing accolade.
