‘Shots’ charged with murdering court tout in home invasion
Twenty-six-year-old Terrence Pitt, who was accused of killing Festival City resident Darrell Breedy during a home invasion last October, was remanded to prison yesterday after he was charged with the crime.
Pitt, called ‘Shots’ and ‘Sonna Boy,’ appeared before acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel IsaacsMarcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court Three, where he was also charged with escape from lawful custody.
He was not required to plead to the indictable charges after they were read to him.
The first charge stated that on October 5th, 2019, at Humming Bird Street, Festival City, he murdered Breedy during the course or furtherance of a robbery.
It was also alleged that between November 11th and 12th, 2019, at Georgetown, while in custody pending investigation of the murder of Breedy, Pitt escaped custody.
Pitt revealed that he was released from prison in 2016 after he was sentenced to three years in prison for illegal possession of narcotics.
Meanwhile, prosecutor Adduni Inniss told the court that Pitt confessed to the murder while in custody and that the police file is complete.
The matter was subsequently adjourned until January 29th, 2020 for the disclosure of statements.
Stabroek News had previously reported that Breedy, 53, who worked as a tout outside the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, was shot once in his abdomen.
The attack occurred around 3.30 am at his Lot 2037 Hummingbird Street, Festival City, North Ruimveldt residence. Crime Chief (ag) Michael Kingston had told this newspaper that initial investigations revealed that two bandits broke into Breedy’s home.
“He [Breedy] woke up, there was massive resistance and he was shot,” Kingston said.
The bandits, managed to escape with a television and $11,000 in cash. They gained entry into Breedy’s house through a window situated on the eastern side of the house.
Breedy was discovered lying face down in the kitchen in a pool of blood. He was shot once.
He was discovered by his daughter, who resided with him in the bottom flat of the two-storey building, which he also shared with his wife.
Breedy’s son, Keron King, said that he heard the gunshot but didn’t realise it came from his home. “After I hear the gunshot, me sister run up the step and seh ‘Daddy just get shoot, call the ambulance,’” King said.
He said when he rushed downstairs, he saw Breedy’s lifeless body in a pool of blood.
