Carpenter remanded over murder of Coldingen fisher
A 20-year-old carpenter was yesterday remanded to prison after he was charged with the murder of a Coldingen, East Coast Demerara fisherman, who was stabbed to death more than a week ago.
Vivekanand Ram of Lusignan, ECD was not required to plead to the indictable charge which was read to him by Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Cove and John Magistrate’s Court.
He was remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned to February 10th.
The body of Mukesh Mangra called ‘Paul”, 27, of Coldingen Squatting Area, ECD was discovered on the evening of January 18 with multiple stab wounds and lacerations about his body.
Family members had told Stabroek News that they believed that Mangra was attacked and killed during a robbery.

Sheneza Geronimo had previously told this newspaper that around 8pm on the fateful day, the family was informed that he was lying on the road.
It is suspected that Mangra was attacked earlier.
Geronimo had related that based on information they gathered, Mangar was attacked by four men, who they suspect worked with him. At the time, he was reportedly on his way home after returning from a weeklong trip at sea. However, before returning home, he reportedly had a few drinks with his mates.
The sister-in-law had explained that some of Mangar’s personal belongings, including his ring, cellular phone and money were missing, leading them to believe that he was robbed.
She had added that based on their inspection, Mangar sustained a broken foot, lacerations to his abdomen and approximately five stab wounds. “Like they beat him with pieces of wood because you could have seen the marks on his belly and back and they stabbed him about five times,” Geronimo had said.
Mangar was found lying on the corner of the road leading to the squatting area. He was pronounced dead at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
