Ruimveldt duo charged with larceny from Royal Castle
Two former Royal Castle workers have been charged with larceny and released on bail.
Latisha Warding, 34, and Dasia Mcphoy, 38, of lot 19 ‘C’ Riverview, Ruimveldt, were separately charged in the courtroom of Principal Magistrate Faith McGusty yesterday.
Warding was faced with two charges, both of which she pleaded not guilty to. It is alleged that between January 2, 2019 and March 4, 2019 at Royal Castle Guyana, at Hincks Street, Georgetown, being employed as a clerk of Royal Castle Guyana, she stole $1,066,148, property of Royal Castle Guyana. It was also alleged that between September 23, 2018 and September 27, 2018, while being a clerk employed by Royal Castle Guyana, she stole $142,220, property of Royal Castle Guyana.
Mcphoy was also charged with three similar offences. It is alleged that between June 2, 2018 and December 31, 2018, while being employed as a clerk by Royal Castle Guyana Inc at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, she stole $3.2 million, property of Royal Castle, Guyana. She was also charged with stealing $281,401, property of Royal
Castle Guyana during the period January 4, 2019 and January 27, 2019. Finally, it is alleged that between January 31, 2019 and March 3, 2019, at Royal Castle Guyana, at Sheriff Street, Georgetown, she stole $1, 69,200, property of Royal Castle Guyana. Mcphoy also pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
Both women were represented by attorney-at-law Darren Wade, who made successful applications for the women to be released on bail. He explained to the court that both of his clients were willing to adhere to any conditions the court would attach to the bail. Wade also explained that the women have young children and have been cooperating with the police. Lastly he pointed out that neither of the women were still in contact with the company nor did they work there anymore.
As a result, Warding was released on $200,000 bail for the two charges, while Mcphoy was released on $250,000 bail. Both of them are required to report to the Criminal Investigations Department on the first Friday of every month and must lodge their passport with the court. They are expected to return to the court on February 26.
