Second man charged with murder of court tout

-

An eighteen-year-old who is before the courts for a series of armed robbery charges was yesterday charged with the murder of Festival City resident, Darrell Breedy, who was shot and killed during a home invasion last October.

Leon Patterson, 18, was remanded to prison yesterday after he was charged with the offence, which states that on October 5th, 2019, at Humming Bird Street, Festival City, he murdered Breedy during the course or furtherance of a robbery.

He was not required to plead to the indictable charge after it was read to him by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.

However, he repeatedly denied the charge saying that he was being framed by Terrence Pitt, who is the other defendant in the matter. He said that he was told by the police that he is being charged because Pitt implicated him in a statement. “I don’t know him [Pitt]. I have no knowledge of what he is talking about,” the teen repeatedly said. He added that he has been in prison since late October after he was remanded for a series of armed robbery charges and it was only after Pitt was remanded for the murder of Breedy that he knew of him by seeing him around the prison.

Meanwhile, the court prosecutor stated that the file is incomplete and told the Chief Magistrate that he received advice from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) stating that two Preliminary Inquiries (PIs) into the charge should be done. The Chief Magistrate then questioned why the court should conduct two PI’s if the evidence is the same. She then instructed the prosecutor to return the file to the DPP in order to clarify why two PIs should be done in relation to the matter.

The matter was subsequently adjourned until February 10th, 2020.

Pitt called ‘Shots’ and ‘Sonna Boy,’ was charged with Breedy’s murder earlier this month and was remanded to prison.

Stabroek News had previously reported that Breedy, 53, who worked as a tout outside the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, was shot once in his abdomen.

The attack occurred around 3.30 am at his Lot 2037 Hummingbird Street, Festival City, North Ruimveldt residence. Crime Chief (Ag) Michael Kingston had told this newspaper that initial investigations revealed that two bandits broke into Breedy’s home.

The bandits, managed to escape with a television and $11,000 in cash. They gained entry into Breedy’s house through a window situated on the eastern side of the house.

Breedy was discovered lying face down in the kitchen in a pool of blood by his daughter, who resided with him in the bottom flat of the two-storied building, which he also shared with his wife.
