Deo’s career-best seals Inaugural Igloo Golf title

A career-best gross of 77 from Joaan Deo saw her winning the inaugural Sterling Products-sponsored Igloo tournament at the Lusignan Golf Club Saturday.

Deo, a former Guyana Open ladies champion, competed in the 10-18 handicap Flight and emerged champion with the best net with 62 among the 31 golfers. She stroked 40 on the front nine and 37 on the back nine. She credited her performance to a dedicated schedule since the start of the season while indicating that the front nine was a bit more competitive playing with the ladies.

Also in the flight, the first prize, which has been separated from the championship prize, went to Hilbert Shields with 66/16 followed by Rakesh Harry with 67/14. Ravindra Harry (69/13), Ayube Subhan (70/14), Patanjilee Persaud (71/14), Maxim Mangra (71/17), Rabindranath Persaud (72/17), Aasrodeen Shaw (73/12), Lekhnarine Shivraj (73/15), Ian Gouveia (74/14) and Paton George (76/16) also churned out credible performances.

Meanwhile, in the 0-9 handicap Flight, reigning Guyana Open Champion, Avinash Persaud, secured the best gross with 72 and won the flight with 70/2. Persaud also won the longest drive while Rabindranath Persaud won the nearest to the pin. He was trailed by Jetendra Dhanpat (72/9) on his return after a long absence.

Over in the 19-36 handicap Flight, Brian Hackett reigned supreme with 69/22 and Anasha Ally finished second with 72/32. Eion Blue ended third with 74/28 followed by Eureka Giddings (76/27).

Sterling’s Merchandising and Promotions Supervisor, Dellon Lynch congratulated the winners as well as all the participants for enduring the warm sunshine that bathed the course that day. Indicating that Sterling was happy to be contributing to the development of golf in Guyana, he also reiterated Sterling’s Chief Executive Officer, Ramsey Ali’s commitment to continue partnering with the LGC, especially with its drive to involve children in the sport.
