Extremely loud music in Kitty from this car wash bay

-

Dear Editor,

I write on behalf of the residents of a section of Kitty. A disturbing phenomenon has occurred within the past couple of weeks, disrupting the highly regarded tranquility of William Street, Kitty and obviously affecting a part of David, Alexander and Queen Streets. We are referring to extremely loud music emanating from a car wash bay located a few lots from Queen and David streets, on the northern side. A report was made to the Kitty Police Station and subsequently, on Saturday 22nd February 2020, police visited the aforementioned business operation. The music was hardly heard for a day or two but it thereafter resumed.

It usually starts from mid-morning and goes into the night. Citizens have often been told that the playing of music at such a volume is illegal anywhere in Guyana where people reside. The limit applied to the volume of any music or noise has been far exceeded by the employees of this car wash bay. Additionally, they have heaped disrespect on the Police Force and all the residents of Kitty within earshot of their music. This letter is penned to gain the attention of the Commissioner of Police and senior ranks within the Police Force. We appeal to you for speedy action in restoring order to this community and simultaneously validating the efficiency and effectiveness of the laws of Guyana and its law enforcement officers.

Yours faithfully,
